Community Garden:

Many Hands Make Light Work

What do gardeners in El Dorado, a prosperous community outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, have in common with gardeners in Acornhoek, a mostly poor rural community near Kruger National Park in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province? Both the El Dorado School Community Garden and two permaculture gardens started by the non-profit Seeds of Light in Acornhoek are part of a worldwide community garden movement, with its roots in the human need to be close to nature and the practical need for nutritious fresh food. Watch this 10 minute video to see the benefits of local gardening in these diverse parts of the world.

The extended version of this film has been screened in the 2012 New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase, in the REEL New Mexico film series in Santa Fe, and at the 2011 Triennial of the Society of Woman Geographers.
